Cyberbullying: The New Frontier of Bullying



The goal of this website is to provide information on
cyberbullying for students, parents and educators. The better
educated we all become on this area of increased concern, the more
ability we have to help those who are its victims.
What is Cyberbullying?
According to the website cyberbullying.org:
"Cyberbullying involves the use of information and
communication technologies such as e-mail, cell phones and pager text
messages, instant messaging, defamatory personal Web Sites, to support
deliberate, repeated, and hostile behaviour by an individual or group,
that is intended to harm ."
Why is Cyberbullying Important?
Cyberbullying
produces the same type of negative effects on its victims as that
bullying that is done in school. In fact, the two are quite similar,
just one is done on the net with a wider audience. Some of the effects
on its victims include:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- School Phobia
- Social Anxiety
- Not wanting to leave the house
- Thoughts or attempted suicide
